What services are provided at the Kuhio Park Terrace (KPT) Family Center?

KPT Family Center provides a wide array of services to individuals and Families living in Kalihi and surrounding areas. Community members are assisted with basic needs such as food, clothes, household goods, and school supplies. The Family Center also provides support by linking individuals to needed resources.

Parents and caregivers are supported through family strengthening services. This support is provided through both individual parenting sessions and classes for parents. Parents and caregivers set their own family goals, and staff work with them to achieve their individual goals.

The Sundays Project is a collaboration with the Department of Education and provides culture driven learning opportunities for families from The Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Island, Palau, and others who are new to Hawaii. The overall goal is to reduce the current high rates of absenteeism in the public schools. The Sundays Project has demonstrated significant success with engaging parents and in reducing rates of absenteeism.

The Community Technology Centers (CTC) are a great place to learn about computers and technology. Open lab at the CTC allows community members to have access to computers and printers to work on homework, check their email, practice their computer skills, or stay connected with family.

The Family Center provide newly arrived immigrants a community touchstone in which they can get guidance, support and assistance regarding passports, green cards, legal assistance, to name a few. In-house language capacity includes Chuukese, Marshallese, Palauan, Samoan and English.

The Neighborhood Place of Kalihi provides individual and group counseling,support and education services. It is designed to serve families who meet one or more of the following criteria:

1. The family has a child (18 years old or younger) or children who have been identified as being at-risk for abuse and/or neglect but unknown to Child Welfare Services (CWS);
2. Pregnant woman with risk factors for child abuse and neglect (CAN);
3. The family has a child or children who have been harmed or are threatened with harm by a family member but are assessed not to be at a level of risk necessitating CWS intervention;
4. The family was assessed by CWS, found to be in need of services and the investigation determined that the family could benefit from diversion services;
5. The family was assessed by CWS but unconfirmed for child abuse and neglect; and
6. The family had an open case with CWS, completed the CWS requirements and the case has been closed.

Kalihi Connection is a drug prevention coalition. Its mission is as follows: To prevent underage drinking and substance abuse amongst our youth, we will organize, mobilize and leverage the diverse resources in our community, including residents, businesses, agencies and organizations, to fully understand our community’s challenges and make the necessary changes to policies, systems, and environments that can lead us to a safe, healthy, and drug-free Kalihi.
