COMMUNITY YOUTH PROGRAMS

Parents And Children Together provides afterschool drop-in centers for youth ages 7-18 who live in and around two public housing complexes, Kuhio Park Terrace and Puuwai Momi in Halawa. These programs promote the development of healthy youth, families and community with an abundance of positive experiences for youth and family members including educational, recreational, community building and support services. Services, activities and hours may vary by site.

Parents can participate in parenting education and family strengthening activities. Case coordination services are available for youth and families coping with poor school performance, truancy, and other difficulties. Activities like sports and study hall give youth supervised alternatives to drugs and gangs, and special events involve families as well.

Educational Activities:
All youth are encouraged to show progress in school through Power Hour educational activities.  Activities include homework help, encouragement and supervision.

The Centers offer a computer lab and internet access. Special training and projects are offered for youth who wish to learn programming or other skills.

Students may participate in special reading, literacy and STEM projects offered throughout the year.

Sports and Recreational Activities:
Youth may watch videos, cook, sing, dance, listen to music and enjoy many relaxing activities with peers. Videos, video games, board games, foosball and pool table are available.

Organized outdoor activities and sports are offered, weather permitting, including:

  • Dodge ball
  • Flag football
  • Triangle
  • Ultimate frisbee
  • Paddling

  • Swimming

Parents And Children Together sponsors an organized late-night basketball league (age 11-18) for youth who participate in Power Hour.

Activities will vary by the season and site; the age requirement will vary depending on the activity.
